Elderberry Syrup
Elderberry syrup is one thing no household should be without. It's super simple, and if you've already learned about the wonderful benefits of elderberry, then you're in the right place!
In this recipe i'll be using dried elderberries, just because i've always got them to hand.
However, if you've caught the foraging bug and manage to go and pick your own, then you are more than welcome to use fresh berries instead. Just remember to use twice the amount of berries!
Health benefits
Elderberry
Elderberry is one of natures best antiviral herbs and has been found to substantially reduce symptoms of upper respiratory tract viral infections.
Ginger
This hot and pungent herb should be a staple in the wintertime. It helps to promote good circulation around the body, while also proving invaluable for cases of common cold and fever. It will also add a delightful kick to your syrup.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon not only imparts a wonderful aroma to any blend, but its anti-microbial properties make it a great addition to any immune remedies. It pairs wonderfully with elderberries and adds a sweet warmth to the syrup.
Clove
Clove, with its strong anti-infectious properties, lends armour to your immune system in times of need. Its analgesic (pain-relieving) properties also make it soothing for sore throats.
Note // Feel free to leave out the extras, like ginger, cinnamon and clove, from this recipe. I love the warming effect and the medicinal properties that these extra herbs bring, but your elderberry syrup will still be very effective without them!
